Peace Altar in a Matchbox
I´m into creating tiny worlds in matchboxes lately (this week).
I love the way they are compact and portable and movable. You can travel with them in a corner of your suitcase, or backpack - and then put them up and open them when you arrive at your destination, whatever it may be.
And...zzasss! the Energy that was coiled inside jumps out at you!
Very neat and so cool.
;-)
This is the Peace Altar that I am meant to create for the Diana Cooper Angel Course that I am doing this summer, matchbox sized.

...Why Art??
(Image : "The Book of Merlin", altered art journal, Shakti G., 2008)Art and and the spiritual Path have been usually considered as rather different domains in the modern era.
Not so for me.
Art – which is the work of the Lady Imagination – and Spirituality, which has everything to do with the Lady Intuition, come from the same Court : the court of the Sun King, the real Self.
I say the “real" Self because I happen to think that our doings in the world are established on cultural conditioning rather than spontaneous being, and thus, what we *think* that we are is what we have learned through experience in the world and a lot of hard “education”, but that which we have learned through so much pain and heart-ache (which we have forgotten in most cases, and that is good, otherwise the pain would be unbearable) may not be what we *really* are- got that ??
We have lost the *real* Path of our development as a species, and that accounts for a lot of the current craziness in the world. Oh? We are not crazy ? We are destroying the environment as if we didn´t know that we absolutely depend on it.!And that´s only one example. We have lost it, friends.
Now as for me, I come from the so-called “spiritual Path”, have been walking my talk for a number of years now, and at one point, I simply had to acknowledge that what we call physical reality (our bodies and our mind) – in opposition to *cultural reality* (the Matrix) - is totally dependent on the *real* physical world. The Path that I was following, the Path of the Chakras if you will call it some thing, turned around on itself and started to flow *down* to the world. *Out*, INTO the world. Yes, even the Hindu masters say so. And the Japanese ones too :
“Before illumination, cut wood and fetch water. After illumination, cut wood and fetch water.”
As one of my daughters (the ecopsychologist!) said to someone : “I cannot breathe your imaginary trees”, when the other person commented that the *Otherworld” was “more real”(to her) than this one!
The so-called Otherworld, in MY definition, being the world of Lady Imagination, NOT a “parallel world”, NOT a different dimension. The Druid “Otherworld” is the world of the imaginal. NOT a different dimension. The word “imaginal" comes from “imago”, an “imago” in psychoanalytic terms means an inner image that we have formed in early childhood (of a loved one, usually a parent) and that remains unchanged throughout our life. See? We carry “images” around, shelved in our brain(s), and these images, most of the time, determine our destiny. And THAT is the important point : they *determine* our destiny.
Wouldn´t it be interesting if we could actually *manifest* these “images”, actualize them, and even change them if they are not what we need them to be? This is quite possible. This is the function of –A-R-T, as I see it. Get all those “imagos” onto paper, and see who you really are!Or, more precisely, what the Matrix has done with the Original You...Then, change it! Because, YOU are the Creator, and YOU can define the images that you carry around, not the Matrix, which is a masked usurper.
Working with the energy of creativity (which is a *real* divine attribute) places these two forces, Lady Imagination and Lady Intuition, in their rightful place on each side of the Sun King, the Self, in the inner Court of the Soul. And since we have even lost the inkling that we are really part of this Court, (or maybe nobody ever told us), the brillance, the sheer wonders that these two Ladies bring to the world show us the Royal Path to the center of who and what we really are :a spiritual Being of untold and undiscovered magnitude.
There are indeed historical (and hysterical!) reasons of why we have lost the Path, why we have all been thrown off our spiritual heritage, as every little baby is, and these reasons can and should be studied. The future of our race and of the whole planet may depend on it. There is no other way if we want to prevent utter destruction.
So, do not hesitate longer: TO YOUR ART, EVERY ONE!

Honouring the Ancestors

(Images : From my new Art Journal "Traces", Shakti G., 2008)
...Going on with the idea of Traces into what we Druids call "honouring the Ancestors", not only my family lines, but "all-my-ancestors", people who came before me, and have long gone, particularly the spiritual lines, the lines that represent my heritage, not necessarily my direct forebears, also the lines of which I am a recipient spiritually speaking.
...I am still working with my stash of bits and pieces, a cornucopia of ideas and visions.

Geography of the Soul

(Image : "Traces", a new Art Journal, Shakti G., 2008)
Artistically speaking I have always been fascinated by traces, marks, blobs, stains, all the bits of paper that are there after finishing a project. I never have the heart to throw them away, lol. So I started a nice collection which has now become a new visual journal called "Traces".
I have been wondering what all the fascination is about, and I think that it has to do with the passing of Time on objects. And on people. I love weathered faces in the same way that I love my bits of unlikely stains. Time erodes, time takes away the virginity of the white paper, - and it is so much more beautiful this way. Faces become interesting as Time passes, and the white paper becomes art. (Of course, it is the Artist who chooses what bit of paper goes with what other, so the process is not really random.)
We live in a society that for commercial reasons detests old age and fading beauties; it hates death with a vengeance, and that is part of its deep unbalance.
So I feel good putting the dirty, the spoiled, the desintegrating in its rightful place : beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the passing of Time is inevitable. This Art Journal is a shrine for Time.

...Art attacks!

(Images : Soul Cards 101 & 102)
Well, the joke "art attacks" is not mine!...Don´t know where I read it, somewhere in the Net.
Actually, for me it doesn´t mean "h-eart attacks" (hahaha), it means "Art attacks!" like in : "Mars attacks"!, lol.
I usually do feel an attack coming on...
I´m peacefully reading a magazine, and suddenly something "seizes" my eyes (as in "having a seizure"!), and then I feel a weird pull somewhere in my brain, my breath becomes a little shorter, my heart beats a little faster, and from then on...it´s a clinch, can´t stop until the image is born.
If I try to do something "half-ways", not really in-spired, planning, or too obvious, too "interesting", I get nowhere.
It´s only when I can let go and feel my brain going into a sort of trance that the good things come about.
The "daimon"´s work, I´m sure.
:-)
